As previously stated, YoungDale Farms is not a registered charity. We simply wish to help address the problem of horse overpopulation; and keep as many horses from going to a bad end as possible.
We do this by taking on “project horses” that would otherwise be destined for slaughter. And we never have to look far. Since we began this initiative, local (and not-so-local) horse people have come to see us as a place that gives second chances to horses. Years ago, people began contacting us when they came across an unwanted horse; or when they’ve had to re-home one of their own. We are not able to take on every horse in need as we are a small operation with a very limited budget, but we do what we can with what we’ve got.
If we can turn a horse’s future around by giving him/her a marketable skill such as being a lesson pony endurance mount/ranch horse – whatever, that’s one less horse to end up on the meat truck.
In 2014/15 we took on 3 such horses. All of them needed a soft place to land as their owners could no longer keep them for various reasons. Since being taken in, 2 of these horses have been started, and are currently in training to be distance mounts. Oona and Saber - will make their ride debuts at local rides competing over 25 miles in the upcoming 2016 season. The third, a gelding named Osiris, is currently undergoing rehabilitative treatments for some spinal and hip issues. We hope to put him into light work this summer.
If you would like to sponsor any of our rescues in these endevours your generosity will go towards feeding/vetting/rehabilitation/training/competition, and thus a second chance for these equines – either here on the farm, or with another loving owner off site.
What do you get in exchange for your sponsorship?
Since we are not a World Famous Endurance Barn (yet;) we can’t offer the moon, but we can guarantee lots of publicity for you or your business. In addition to wearing any company merchandise, you or your business will be mentioned prominently on our social media pages, as well as our website.
One of our sponsors for the 2015 season was Cody Party Ottawa, located at 861 Boyd Ave. They were extremely generous in their sponsorship of an event put on by YoungDale Farms and Wildfire Arabians in the LaRose Forest. Lopin’ LaRose was our first foray into putting on a Competitive Trail Ride, and Cody Party not only gave us use of thousands of dollars of rentals for free, but also transported the materials to the site and helped set it all up!
Other sponsors for our ride included Impulsion Equine Massage, and Ambrosia Apiaries - who both donated prizes to top finishing competitors. We love all our sponsors!
In exchange we distributed materials such as pamphlets and business cards, along with wearing T-shirts and displaying prominent signage at our event. We do whatever we can for our sponsors, since they are so generous with us. If you have an idea that you would like us to consider in exchange for sponsorship of any kind, we will do our best to accommodate. Some businesses make patches that we attach to our equipment, or clothing that we wear in public. Others have banners that we display at events, or literature that we make available to anyone interested.
If you have an idea for sponsorship let us know! We have great imaginations, and will come up with a fun and creative way to get your business/product seen.
